The Attack of Ekuman

As Queen of Yticsanve, Aelena had a defensive infrastructure for her palace, the city, and the other main cities throughout the land. However, such a system would be subject to the onslaught of Ekuman.

Brother of the late Eduman, Ekuman had a grudge against the arrangement between Aelena and Wannonia. In getting him to abduct Aelena, Iduman, Ekuman's father, was promised by Wannonian Empress Alexia I large amounts of Daferan territory. However, Iduman was killed in battle, something that Ekuman blamed on Alexia and Aelena's acts of "careless handlings." Furthermore, the treaty that followed went back on the promise to grant the Daferan territories to Ekuman and his family. For this, Ekuman's resolve was to storm and fell the city of Yticsanve, and take the Queen as his personal servant. In May 253, Ekuman and his pirates launched an attack Yticsanve, where they easily took the docks as they landed on the coast. Then they proceeded to swarm the streets, raiding homes and shops. Queen Aelena's forces resisted in a brutal fashion, but Ekuman overcame them. Ekuman, in person, burst into the Queen's chamber, where the Queen, herself was inside; but then, unexpectedly, Ekuman was shot in the back with a poison dart fired by a hidden assassin, and died shortly thereafter. Queen Aelena's forces regrouped and push back against Ekuman's forces; and, in the wake of hearing news of Ekuman's death, they surrendered.

Queen Aelena's Doctrine

Afterward, Queen Aelena resolved that she wanted more peace for her subjects, especially in the streets of Yticsanve. Therefore, she needed more soldiers, especially Daferan fighters from the rural regions who had cunning skill. She established a curriculum where every Yticsanvian, male and female, was tested for strength early on. Those who qualified were made to train in combat. The doctrine behind the combat training curriculum was that each trainee was convinced that anyone who was not of Daferan ethnicity wanted to oppress the Daferans, and that each trainee was, himself or herself, the Savior. After graduating from the combat curriculum, each warrior would serve as a "Savior" for the Queen.

Oriam and Yrospian: Early Training

Of the Kintara clan, Oriam and Yrospian were brothers. Both demonstrated capabilities to fight effectively in combat; and, consequently, both were placed in the Queen's curriculum. Yrospian, however, was more obedient than Oriam. Oriam felt, early on, that the "savior" doctrine was just an illusion to get the Daferan masses to obey an upper authority, and that he, as an individual, could do more. Yrospian, in contrast, felt committed to adhering to the curriculum, as he, after reading literature he encountered years previously, knew that the Wannonians, who defeated and took land from the Daferans, were known oppressors. Furthermore, Yrospian felt empowered as a "savior," and fantasized about a quest to conquer Wannonia as well as the rest of Remikra.

Oriam's Escape

In September 262, Oriam escaped the combat training camp to which he and his brother had been assigned. In response, Yrospian recruited a search party, who, in December, located and captured Oriam; and Oriam was imprisoned. Yrospian, on the other hand, was rewarded for his efforts, with advancement to the next level of the curriculum: to work directly for the Queen's Nobility. Yrospian was sent to Yticsanve proper, where he passed a special test to demonstrate unwavering loyalty to the Queen. Somera, a noblewoman under the Queen, became Yrospian's direct superior, and assigned him to a training camp, where he would serve the job of recruiting and indoctrinating young Daferan warriors. In other words, Yrospian was now the instructor.

It was at this point, however, that Yrospian realized that Oriam was right, that the "savior" doctrine was just an illusion to provide a large number of loyal fighters for the Queen. Furthermore, Yrospian, himself, felt that he was capable of more as an individual.

Yrospian's Rebellion It was in March 263, when he was sent to a camp situated on the South Coast to train Daferan pupils, that Yrospian came to terms with a quest to establish his own country. Over the next three months, he spread such a philosophy among his warrior contemporaries and convinced them to join him in an agenda to topple Yticsanve and eliminate the Queen. As the training for this took place, fellow instructors became quite wary of him, and, in June, attempted to assassinate him. However, Yrospian had already established a spy network among his students, who told him of the deadly plot. He had them and other trainees serve as assassins, themselves, and successfully kill the other commanders.

In September 263, Oriam was released from prison; and immediately, he received a letter from Yrospian, telling him to come to the training camp. That November, Oriam arrived, and discovered what Yrospian had been doing. He tried to convince Yrospian to reconsider, reflecting on what he had learned during his period of redemption. But in the end, it was Yrospian who convinced Oriam that he was right before, and that the redemption he experienced was part of the Queen's doctrine to bring him under control. Yrospian furthermore promised that the two brothers would run their new country as Kings equal in power, which was what convinced Oriam. Between January and February 264, the two brothers led rebelling Daferans to overcome the surrounding training camps, overthrowing commanders within the hierarchy.

Kingdom of Yrosp, the Establishment

In March 264, Queen Aelena received news about the Daferan rebellion in the South, and dispatched Yticsanvian soldiers to restore peace. However, the forces under Oriam and Yrospian were well-organized, consisting of fresh, young Daferan warriors. They succeeded in pushing back the Queen's forces to the city of Yticsanve. In May 264, the Queen's forces regrouped and pushed the rebel forces to a boundary halfway between Yticsanve and the training camps in the South. However, it was here that the rebels held their ground.

In June 264, Yrospian crowned himself King. Subsequently, the Kingdom of Yrosp was established, with its capital city, under the same name, situated on the South Coast near the original training camp. He then had his brother, Oriam, named one of the head army commanders, breaking his previous promise. That September, Queen Aelena signed a treaty with the new Kingdom, calling for peace and respecting their sovereignty.

The Kingdom of Oriam

In January 266, Yrosp was attacked by pirates seeking revenge over Ekuman's death thirteen years earlier. King Yrospian sent Oriam, as a head commander, out to defeat the island base from which the enemy came, to which Oriam obliged. That March, Oriam defeated the pirates; and King Yrospian ordered him to stay there while he, the King himself, reaped the spoils. In May, unhappy with his brother, Oriam left the region and went inland to establish, in the Interior Desert, a city named after him. Between June 266 and February 267, he recruited and trained thousands of young Daferan soldiers, and, in March, launched a surprise attack on Yrosp. King Yrospian pushed Oriam's forces back to their city gates, but not before Oriam called on Queen Aelena for help. In April, Queen Aelena obliged to the request and sent reinforcements, who joined Oriam's soldiers and pushed Yrospian's back to their city proper, placing it under siege. In May 267, King Yrospian surrendered and called for a council, during which a treaty signed with Queen Aelena and Oriam, established a fair boundary between two new countries: the Kingdom of Yrosp and the territory under the control of Oriam.

In June 267, Oriam crowned himself King, establishing his territory as the Kingdom of Oriam.
