As part of a personal resolution I made for the new year, I decided to re-engage in the Third Level Society with my avatar, Captain Bornan. I had all but withdrawn since Zachary Landon's ascension to the Dungeonmaster position a few years back. But when I heard about the changes having taken place, I decided that not only did I desire to keep my standing in the Society, but also I wanted to ensure that the Society did not deviate too much in my absence.
The organization that Captain Bornan had engaged with before my withdrawal has long been dissolved through numerous fray quests and diplomatic agreements. But I was easily able to assimilate my avatar by joining him with a new organization known as the Conjoined Order of Vera and Sterran; and apparently, I am part of the organization's unofficial pro-diplomacy faction. I was immediately assigned a division to lead, which has, in this month alone, carried on rather successfully. Our division consists of seventeen small airships, like cavies in our world.
So again, our division was very successful in this month alone. Our coffer is quite large. And we have a sound policy of fair distribution of wealth among all avatars of all ranks. There have been minor conflicts of interest between members. But our community-driven policy of conflict resolution keeps our division united and strong. Our list of rules and principles are voted in by all members and enforced by elected leadership. And furthermore, Captain Bornan is engaged in protocols of fair diplomacy with other fellow Captains to prevent conflicts within the Order as a whole.
However, I have already encountered an issue with this new Dungeonmaster, Koby Breen. This week, the Order had been engaged in a perpetual conflict with our top rival, the White Lothar, over the Arturian city of Novapax, one of the main stateless cities that was designated to be that of peace. This rival is very large organization, having chapters all over the entire Realm. So who we were fighting was simply one of their many chapters. But this Chapter was not one of their formidable ones. We drove them out of the Southeastern corner of Novapax quite easily, thus liberating all parts of the city from them. Afterward, we went to occupy the southeastern corner and divide everything up accordingly to repopulate the place and refortify them against further invasion. There had been a minor dispute between a Chief Officer under my command and one under the command of Captain Folle, an avatar played by fellow Member Alex Cromme. The two figures clashed and sent avatars to fight each other. Captain Folle and I stepped in and negotiated a fair division between the two sides, which had a successful outcome.
Later that evening, however, I received word from one of the Prefects that the shared territory had been yanked from both sides and handed over to Saint Caramin, the avatar played by Sara Martin, who was not part of the Order. The Prefect reasoned that this was done "to neutralize potential conflicts in the future that would threaten the integrity of the Order." The following night, I met with Alex Cromme in the University Library, where he expressed the same outrage and disbelief as myself. So we decided to pen a letter of complaint, co-sign it, and send it to Dungeonmaster Breen. Breen responded with a long letter outlining his dedication to preserving the principles of the Society as well as its balance of dynamics, and stressing the importance of the Prefects serving their role to resolve conflicts between parties without causing issues with resolutions already agreed upon. Nonetheless, the response very much amounted to: "We will look into this."
That was a week ago. And I have heard nothing since.
