King Kumoran's Plan

With the first assault on the vast territory of Wannonia, King Kumoran of the Daferans first encountered a well-garrisoned border wall protecting Wannonian territories. Second, there were plenty of Legion troops stationed in the lands behind such a wall. Such circumstances effectively brought the first Daferan wave into Wannonia to a virtual stalemate. However, King Kumoran believed that a more brilliant plan would help him to conquer Wannonia with ease. Such a plan would involve sowing civil unrest in the bordering Kingdom of Calanas so that Wannonian Legion troops, under the leadership of Empress Alexia I, who believed in settling such affairs, would be diverted. While Legion troops were away, Kumoran would then seize the wall and take time to assemble enough Daferans within the wall corridors as well as in the adjacent borderlands, before launching another Daferan "wave" Northward. He then expected to continue his sweep North to Tekon and place it under siege.

Uprising in Calanas

Queen Lifsona ruled Calanas until her death in 192, afterwhich she was succeeded by her granddaughter, Queen Qesona.

By the late 240s, there had emerged a movement to place a male figure on the Calanasian throne. Villages and city cantons resisted the Queen by not paying taxes, as they overthrew local Calanasian knights and barricaded themselves against reinforcements. The movement was divided, though, as resisting figures fought among themselves for dominance. Nevertheless, opportunity arose when King Kumoran, who upheld such a male-dominant idea as well, instilled a Calanasian figure named Orlan, who united the previously divided resistance under his leadership. The deal that the King made with Orlan was that Orlan would overthrow the Calanasian Queen to help divert Wannonian forces with an additional conflict; and after the anticipated downfall of Wannonia, that Kumoran, in exchange, would promise to help Orlan conquer Kitalos, giving Orlan all of that territory. However, scholars note that Kumoran's real plan after the defeat of Wannonia was to conquer Calanas next before aiming for the Edoran Kingdom. Nevertheless, in September 249, Orlan carried out the assault on the Calanasian capital of Abetz, forcing Queen Quesona to flee and making himself the King.

Ibuman's Betrayal

Meanwhile, the sea pirate, Ibuman, having learned of Kumoran's plot behind Ebuman's death as well as the capturing of his ships, had a network of spies relay to him information regarding the plan to conquer Wannonia and Calanas. In November 249, he reached the Wannonian capital of Tekon and delivered this information to Empress Alexia I.

Alexia I's Counterplan

Not long after, in February 250, Alexia I received news about the uprising in Calanas. She sent Wannonian Legion troops to the South. However, unknown to Kumoran and the Daferans, these troops stationed themselves in secret camps along Daferan borders so as not to directly confront the Daferans. Meanwhile, the Empress ordered the buildup of secret Legion forces in the borderlands near Sorto, where farmers in the region prepared themselves just as the Chemkans did thirty years prior, by openly wearing what appeared to be ordinary clothes, yet preparing farming tools designed to also be used as weapons in battle. Spellcrafter guilds employed some of these farmers to serve as concealed archers stationed on hilltops and flaxweed silos, where they would attack the Daferans from the South as they pushed North. As a second line of defense, Alexia I ordered the concentration of her remaining Legion forces along a line about 100 miles South of Tekon.

King Kumoran's Second Assault on Wannonia

In December 250, King Kumoran arrived at the helm of his Daferan forces South of the Wannonian border to rally his troops and give them confidence. Before long, he received news that the wall and lands immediately behind were less staffed than before, with Wannonian Legions having gone South toward Calanas. Delighted to hear his plan unfolding seemingly well, King Kumoran vowed to lead the initial charge against the Wannonian wall on a night in January, when the sky would be moonless and dark. It was then, however, that Kumoran received news that Ibuman, having learned about the acts of betrayal before and during the Black Wave, had abducted and taken Kumoran's daughter, Aelena, hostage, transporting her to Elsa Island near the Mouth of the Inland Sea. Kumoran promptly departed the battlefront with a rescue party of Daferan troops, placing Stepaneco, the Daferan leader second in line, to lead the midnight charge. In January 251, the offensive was launched. Though the assault was not as confident as it would have been under Kumoran, the Wannonian wall was captured within three days. Seven days later, the Daferans, having held their ground despite Wannonian troops attacking from the North, assembled enough soldiers to launch another wave into the North; and in February, Stepaneco gave the command. Between then and March, the wave North seemed to play in favor for the Daferans, with the Wannonian Legion forces seemingly weak. But then the hidden Wannonian counteroffenses were launched. The hidden archers on the silos and hilltops inflicted heavy casualties on Daferan forces; and Stepaneco, himself, was killed. Meanwhile, Wannonian farmers charged out against the Daferans with their daggers and other weapons of war, while one of the Northern Legion divisions, under Alexia I's orders, launched an additional offense. It was at this point that the Daferans were trapped, and were either slaughtered or taken into slavery by the Wannonians.

The Fall of the Daferans

In the Daferan territories to the South, the hidden Wannonian Legion troops launched their offenses, quickly capturing the cities of Corbo and Sorto, and forcing the remaining Daferan forces to retreat to Remoh, which was besieged by the Wannonians. Meanwhile, King Kumoran arrived to Elsa Island with his troops, who promptly killed Ibuman. However, the mission proved a trap for the Daferan King, as he was met offshore by a fleet of ships carrying an entire Wannonian Legion. King Kumoran was killed by a Wannonian archer. In June 251, upon hearing news of the King's death, Daferan forces occupying the besieged city of Remoh surrendered.

The Treaty of 251

In September 251, Empress Alexia I crafted a treaty to deal with the former Daferan territories. Although the Daferans were defeated, the Empress, fair in her policies, had respect for the original cause of the Daferan uprising. She split the lands between the Chemkan Republic in the North, the small piece of land surrounding Remoh to the Remohan Kingdom, and the rest to a new sovereign Daferan Kingdom: Yticsanve. To the Chemkan city of Sorto returned members of the Chemkan Senate, while Alexia I re-instilled Durantakis as the King over Remoh. Alexia I instilled Aelena, who survived the ordeal on Elsa Island, to be the Queen of Yticsanve. Meanwhile, Ibuman's pirates were given sovereignty over Elsa Island as well as their original Meredythian Island territories in exchange for peace and trade with Wannonia.

In December 251, Wannonian Legions put down the rebellion in Calanas, as King Orlan, having lost to them, committed suicide. In his place, Queen Quesona was re-instilled.
