Third Level Society: First Version
Story Five: Oscar Lehman
21 September 1261

The Society Caucus officially votes in 3 days on who the next Dungeonmaster will be. Karlin is leaving. Karlin has encouraged numerous Members to support me. And there seems to be no one else making a volley for the same position.

It would seem to everyone else that it was easy for me. But it is not.

First, I penned a letter, finally, to Cray Fenton in North Kempton, explaining myself and why I would not be returning. I still have not received a response. Though it has only been three days. He has been supportive me, even though I felt that everyone was pulling a trick on me. However, I am also nervous about his reaction. I know he had a bad brush with the Society when he was the Dungeonmaster, himself.

Second, despite now there being integration in terms of a nearly unanimous support of interglobal questing, there is still squabbling over how this would be implemented. While I was gone Marylin Conleigh had come up with this outrageous idea of putting in the entire interglobal plane, as talked about in the Original Story, within the scope of one year; in other words, having it in place by the end of 1262. We currently have the entire planetary system of the origin of Planet Arturia in place right now, still peopled mostly by algorithm-generated avatars. But accordingly, there are also planetary systems dedicated to each of the five nations for a total of six in a cluster. Then there are six clusters.

To attempt to build all of that in a year would be entirely unattainable. Hyla Grime arrived several days after I did; a friend of the Gallestons took her spot in heading the chapter of "the Circle" at Lyndonpole. In due time, she examined the situation here in the Society and said that we should only focus on building the other five planetary systems for our first system cluster in the next ten years. This, of course, proves unappealing for about half of the Caucus.

So if I become the Dungeonmaster, I have that to deal with. Furthermore, I need to finish my studies at Cabotton University.

Third, I would also be defending the arrangement made between the Society and Fenton's "Circle," in terms of the vast monetary donation that was given, putting Fenton in a position of being able to help the Society. I still am in the dark on this. What I do know is that the donor's name is "Greycloak." Whether that is a person or a group, I am not able to obtain anymore information from the Keepers. And that leads to the other thing I know: the Keepers. There are five of them: Ivella Ogden, Thomas Snow, Cray Fenton, Meon Bell, and Daniel Orville Carter. They swear that "Greycloak" is of no relation to Kontacet, and, in fact, were partaking in this to prevent profitable interest groups like the Kontacets. But aside from that information, they apparently signed a contract to not disclose to anyone, not even close friends or professional acquaintances like myself, the identity of "Greycloak" and other details of the arrangement.

Nevertheless, if I become the Dungeonmaster, my role is to defend them.

I honestly do not see why I would not win the vote for the Dungeonmaster position. I am not saying this to brag or even boast confidence. In fact, this is more of a duty calling for a larger-than-life assignment that someone has to fulfill. It's something I, quite honestly, have been hoping someone else would be assigned to do, owing to the daunting tasks.

Regardless, if the Society wants me to serve the Dungeonmaster role, I will do it. I will do it to the best of my ability.

Hopefully, some good will come of this.
