The events of tonight started off with a call from Campus Watch Chief Winsley, relaying a report made by various students regarding strange activity near the campus Planetarium. Upon my arrival, I gathered more details. Apparently these concealed figures were entering the Planetarium through the wall near its Southeast Corner. This type of activity is not specifically evident of darkfire activity per say. However, playing oneself in such a conspicuous fashion may suggest an incentive to partake in activities outside the scope of the law. So I decided to investigate.
The incident happened only about twenty or thirty minutes before I arrived. But despite this, I could hardly spot evidence with the exception of spellfire script imprints, which I could see through my lenses, located near the place where the two witnesses reported seeing the figures entering the Planetarium. The imprints suggested material arrangement, however, whatever part of the wall was rearranged was put exactly back in its place again. I summoned the Campus Watch and gained their authorization to enter the Planetarium Hall, itself; I had to, for it was after hours.
Inside, I scanned every inch of every edge and corner of every hallway surrounding the Interior Planetarium Chamber. Only one thing stood out to me; and that was the two-meter-tall bookshelf along the South wall adjacent to the Interior Chamber. I was unable to pinpoint what exactly it was that stood out to me about this bookshelf. Furthermore, there was absolutely no evidence of spellfire here. Nonetheless, I made note and continued into the Interior Chamber.
Quite impressive the Interior Chamber is with its lofty Dome nearly a hundred feet above me. I scanned every row of seats and even went into the Upper Balcony lining the circular edge of the Chamber. But alas, even here, I found absolutely no leads.
And that was when the second report came in.
It was from the University Hospital Wing on the third floor of the Administration Hall. A student named Mervin Lorens had been knocked unconscious during the initial confrontation in the Basement Chamber of Fleming House's Northwest Wing. Upon meeting him, I learned that the twenty-one-year-old was involved in a vigilante group known as the House-Keepers, acting on the notion that they are quicker than the Campus Watch to respond to any form of treachery in the University. Their moral standing seems a bit controversial, but their decision to confront Weller and his men in the Basement Chamber proved to be of good judgement.
And this is where I made a realization. Lorens was the student who confronted the darkfire conjurers, though he did not chance upon them. He and his two assistants intently ventured out to face them, having acted on a tip. When I asked about the source, Lorens said that the tip was anonymous, but for the letters: "O, IM."
I decided to have another look at the Basement Chamber. Cordoned-off from the public for investigation, everything here was still left as it was on the night of the incident, just like the first time I was here. There were a few chairs overturned near the door that was damaged; and Lorens pointed this out, saying that this was where it happened. Accordingly, Lorens had pounded on the door, ordering the conjurers to come out and surrender. One of Weller's cronies had opened the door but by only a crack, and immediately began firing stun spell discharges. Lorens had fought back, leading to a brief exchange of discharges. It appears that at some point, the chairs I thought were knocked over may have actually been used to barricade the door against Lorens. In any case, the exchange only lasted a few seconds; and the darkfire conjurers were quick to disband. This is evident because of the order in the arrangement of the remainder of the chairs: two rows of five facing a center aisle.
But for me, this leaves a burning question: Where did they go?
