Third Level Society: First Version
Story Seven: Sarah Marks
24 May 1282

The turn of events having occurred since I last wrote is something that I am still trying to piece together and comprehend.

First, I do not know if I will ever engage in the Arturian Realm again. In fact, I may even renounce my Membership in the Third Level Society because of the war against Kara Martins.

It's got everything to do with what happened on the picket line. So on the first day, this past Monday, there was silence from the surrounding community. In fact, even as I wrote my last entry, it admittedly felt it was a bit too quiet. On the next day, May 19, a group of strike opponents held an anti-strike rally near one of the Wall entrances.

Now Headmaster Lach is actually neutral on this matter. Regardless, he stepped up Campus Watch presence near the entry point just in case there were violent clashes.

On the next day, that rally grew a bit larger and a bit more angry. And then a group of Cabotton residents in support of the strike came out to confront the anti-strikers. A few scuffles broke out. Cabotton Police and Campus Watch stepped in on these few occasions to break up the fight.

And then the unthinkable happened.

I was not there myself, but Kara Martins was. She and a few strikers decided to take a break and head over to a cafe off campus for a much-needed lunch. It was just after one of the scuffles happened, which drew police and the Campus Watch to a spot down the street from the entrance.

Suddenly, Kara and the strikers were ambushed by spellcrafters discharging spell discharges from hidden locations.

Two of the strikers got away with no injuries but Kara and the other two strikers had to visit the hospital.

Meanwhile, I heard the bangs of the spellfire discharges but did not hear what happened until later that day. When I did, I and Dyla immediately went out and paid Kara a visit. Kara recounted what happened, and I immediately began to speculate whether the scuffle that drew the officers away from the spot where they were attacked was, in fact, a deterrent to help carry out the ambush.

Kara was struck and flew about thirty yards down the sidewalk. No broken bones but a few scrapes and scratches requiring bandages. She was able to go home the next day.

But even to this day, no one knows who the attackers were. So they are still at large. Both Cabotton Police and the Campus Watch are searching.

It should make sense to Peter Crane that Kara Martins, herself, is not responsible for the incident. And I think he understands that, but he is so committed to his cunning strategy to get rid of her that he is willing to twist things and lie, and convince the Third Level Society that Kara had some responsibility. When his claims contradicted with the facts given out by the authorities, he responded by providing his favorite excuse: darkfire.

Most of the Membership, at least more than half, does not buy Peter's claims. So the Caucus should not have voted to officially ban Kara from the Society and its premise. Sadly, Peter was able to take advantage of the fact that due to the strike, many Members went home and were therefore not on campus. He convinced enough Members he knew supported him to come to a Caucus Chamber meeting, fulfilling just enough attendees required to do a proper meeting. He was quite secretive and swift about it, so that even though Dyla and I tried to sound the alarm and get Caucus attendees of our own to show up and give a majority against Peter's move, our effort was in vain.

Peter succeeded in voting out Kara Martins. She is now officially banned from the Society and cannot show up on the premise.

So in standing in solidarity with Kara, Dyla and I have vowed not to engage in the Arturian Realm so long as Kara remains banned. We were going to renounce our Memberships but Kara actually convinced us not to.

Bans, after all, can be overturned.

This came at the right time, though, because with school not being in session and us not engaging in the Arturian Realm, we now had time for another important task: spellcrafter license restoration for both Dyla and Kara.

There's renewed hope here because both Kara and Dyla have finished their requirements. We set up an appointment with an Arbitrator in Cabotton proper for the latter one.

That will take place on June 16.
